Windstorm Awareness
Hello, everybody, and welcome to the first edition of Living in the Danger Zone. I am your host and creator, DJ the Iceman Freeze. I am so glad to be here to be able to help each and every one of you to understand windstorm requirements in the state of Texas mostly. But if you live anywhere near a windstorm area, whether it be in the East Coast or somewhere along the southern coast of Louisiana to Florida, if you live anywhere where there's a windstorm area, we want to help you. Okay. I want to welcome each and every one of you that are probably the most helpful and informative podcast out there dealing with windstorm that you'll ever see. There's no one out there on the internet that's doing it quite like I'm doing it. We're going to discuss many topics and show you what a homeowner and contractor can do to try to prevent them from wasting their hard-earned money. And that's the main name of the game. And knowing which products to buy, how to find contractors if a homeowner needs a contractor. This podcast will go in depth of what it entails to deal with TDI or T TWIA. Now, TDI is uh the Texas Department of Insurance. For those of you in Texas that know this, and TWIA is Texas Windstorm Insurance Association. There are two different entities. One is a government entity, TDI, the other one is an insurance company, and which is Texas Windstorm. We'll explain the do's and don'ts and how to do things before you waste your time and your effort. Again, my name is DJ, and I just want to say I'm glad to be here dealing with the issues that are on hand with people. I know that I've talked to lots of people who have been uh have wasted money and time and effort to get what they need. By the time that they get to me, they've already wasted their money. So we want to try to inform people, let them know what we're doing. I was myself a home builder and contractor. I used to build custom homes and spec homes. Um I was also a licensed professional home inspector with the state of Texas, the Texas real estate. I was licensed also and worked as an insurance adjuster mainly in Texas. Became a windstorm inspector for the state of Texas for a few years. Um then ever since Harvey, I um when they hit, when it hit in 2017, uh I started working as an independent inspector for windstorm engineers, um, where I've really built a reputation for helping people as much as I can. I educate contractors, homeowners, and so on while I'm there on site. Um I've noticed that that here really in the last few years that there has been a lot of people that have no idea where to go. There's nothing out there for them to talk about. Even the state employees, when they when they ask, what the only information they can do is give them what's on this the state site, which isn't a lot. So I kind of like condensed everything that I have learned and what I've what is current on the codes and help people out. Um we want to we want to try to get you them accurate information as much as possible. Best way to approach and deal with anything from installing windstorm products to knowing about the codes, insurance needs that are out there for the for the Texas windstorm insurance, to it's even handling post inspections from a project that's really already been done, and say, like the contractor didn't get it certified. We want to be able to help you go through that process. Um, some people got these letters from TWIA and they know who they are. Um they just freak out when they see them because they're actually going to try to cancel their homeowners' policy if they don't get it certain things certified. So we're here to help people, um, whether it be into just putting something on currently and ongoing, um, most of the things that they people put on are on are what they call cladding for projects, um, such as siding, windows, doors, um, ACs, and when they put them in and have to have them secured to roofing, solar panels, even framing. So each podcast, I'm gonna go into detail into certain things, and we're gonna go into how things are installed, where to go find out about the codes, the product evaluations, uh, whatever it might be, and we will go through it and do the best approach and minimize any steps that can be like easily overlooked, and we don't want it to cost you any money because whether it be the building owner or the contractor, we want to make it easy for you. Okay, so again, thank you for listening. I am DJ the Iceman Freeze, and by all means, if you love this uh podcast, please by all means subscribe down below. Um, we will be able to help you. Um we would love to have you as a subscriber to uh to be able to keep you up up on and abreast of all of the current things that are going on. If you've got a project that later on, say in the next year you need to do, it's good to be able to have all this information and we will be glad to help you. Thank you.
